Artwork Description
Description
Watercolor on cold press paper. Seven plants soak in the moonlight while a lucky cat pulls in luck and abundance. This painting is a reminder that everything you have in life and want in life depends on the seeds you have sewn and the energy you pour into them.
Artist Information
Bio
Amanda is a Nikkei (second generation Japanese American) artist currently residing in the Pacific Northwest. She mainly works with watercolor, acrylic and India ink but loves to work with fabric as well and will occasionally incorporate it for a multi media effect. Amanda is heavily influenced by her many years spent studying as a hula dancer and going back and forth between Japan and the USA. She and her husband share a passion for world travel, hiking, food, gardening and raising their fur babies. Amanda grew up by the ocean in Ventura, CA while her husband grew up on the island of Kaua’i. They met in the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Colorado before falling in love with the landscape and foodie scene of Portland, OR.  Amanda prioritizes her time away from her practical job by ensuring she gets time to create in her studio. Time spent creating is a form of meditation for her and she hopes to spark and element of joy for anyone that views her work
Artist Statement
My name is Amanda and I own The Purple Door Studio. Creating artwork is a form of meditation for me and tend to flow between the simplicity of  Japanese artwork and my love for color and sparkle. I delight in the beauty of the magical and fantastical and often incorporate these elements into scenery. I also love the beauty of imperfection and for this reason am currently studying sumi-e and etegami. I lose myself in a state of joy, peace and quietness when I’m creating my works of art. My wish for my audience is to bring the simplicity of a smile to their face and an element of peace to their minds.
