Artist Information
Bio
Felicity Inkpen is a visual artist working in traditional two-dimensional media from her studio in Leith, Edinburgh. Trained in physics and neuroscience, she draws on her extensive knowledge and experience as a working research scientist to inform her contemporary figurative works that attempt to explore and communicate all the strange ways in which the mind works. Practicing and exhibiting as an artist since 2012, the global pandemic caused her to re-evaluate her priorities, and in 2022 she made the switch to focus on art full-time.

Recent visual work has explored pandemic anxiety, and the phenomenon of synaesthesia, when brains make unusual cognitive sensory associations.
Artist Statement
Felicity Inkpen presents a mix of observational sketches in ink and pencil, as well as contemporary paintings and collages. Strongly inspired by science and nature, her works often contain recurring motifs such as birds and insects, but also use disconcerting imagery to explore ways of communicating the more complicated experiences of being human.
