Artwork Description
Description
This hand-painted watercolor features a whimsical pumpkin cup filled with an eerie brew of swirling ghosts, graveyards, and pumpkins. Vibrant colors and intricate details create a magical, spooky atmosphere, capturing the essence of a haunted autumn potion. The artwork beckons: Are you daring enough to take a sip?
Artist Information
Bio
Amanda is a Nissei (second-generation Japanese American) artist residing in the Pacific Northwest. Specializing in watercolor, she sometimes incorporates fabric and acrylic for a multimedia effect. Her art is deeply influenced by her years studying hula and her experiences traveling between Japan and the USA. Amanda and her husband share a passion for world travel, hiking, food, gardening, and raising their fur babies. Originally from Ventura, CA, Amanda grew up by the ocean, while her husband hails from Kaua’i. They met in Colorado and later fell in love with the Pacific Northwest. Amanda is also the creator of The Traveling Jizo-san, a character inspired by the Traveling Gnome. The Traveling Jizo-san, a Japanese protector of children and travelers, joins Amanda and her husband on their global adventures, meeting new friends and sharing these experiences with her audience.
Artist Statement
My name is Amanda and I own The Purple Door Studio. Creating artwork is a form of meditation for me and tend to flow between the simplicity of Japanese artwork and my love for color and sparkle. I delight in the beauty of the magical and fantastical and often incorporate these elements into scenery. I also love the beauty of imperfection and for this reason am currently studying sumi-e and etegami. I lose myself in a state of joy, peace and quietness when I’m creating my works of art. My wish for my audience is to bring the simplicity of a smile to their face and an element of peace to their minds.
