Bio
Nora Prindle is a scientific illustrator based in Tacoma, Washington. Fascinated by the natural world from a young age, she primarily draws plants and animals and finds peace in the meditative state required to understand a natural specimen. Fine tip pens are her medium of choice, as they allow the most control and fine detail. Nora has a degree in Natural Science Illustration from the University of Washington, as well as a Master’s in Psychological Science, and a Bachelor’s in Art and Art History.Artist Statement
My work is inspired by the beauty and diversity of the natural world. Spending time in nature has always been a source of calm in my life, and the drawing process produces a similar effect. It’s a meditative experience to attempt to understand and depict a specimen’s features through stippling and cross-hatching. Working in black and white with fine tip pens allows for meticulous detail, extreme control, and distinct textures. I hope to convey the sense of awe I experience when seeing an animal in the wild or studying a plant up close. These seemingly ordinary things can have a complex beauty of their own, and hopefully the viewer will agree that it’s always worth taking a closer look.
