Artwork Description
Description
Cup Noodle takes us back to student stores. It takes us back to using sugar, sodium and caffeine to make it through our next class. It calls to mind a myriad of memories. Cup Noodle is the food of our high school hallways and our debt-ridden college students.
Cup Noodle is cheap and non-nutritious. But we are fed. We have energy to go to the next task. Lunch on the GO is the third piece in a series about how the most common things are little hints at our wealth and privilege. These pieces are a personal reminder that if I can afford to be a consumer then I can afford to be a giver.
Artist Information
Bio
Amy Lewis is a self taught artist from Washington state. Her watercolor and oil paintings are vivid lifelike snapshots of ordinary life glamorized.

Amy grew up in a middle class family in a low income neighborhood. Her city, Tacoma, Washington, is rich with the contrast of the wealthy and the poor sharing the same town. This contrast impacts Amy’s heart and informs her work.

Amy, inspired by fashion editorials and historic paintings of aristocracy, matches everyday objects with rich backgrounds. The juxtaposition of the ordinary and the luxurious sparks an appreciation for the things we take for granted.

She paints to cultivate joy and an appreciation for the beauty that is all around us.
Artist Statement
Fashion editorials and historic paintings of aristocracy are rich sources of inspiration. They are the perfect combination of light, fashion and artistry.

I’m constantly exploring ways to portray ordinary life as glamorous. Art gives us eyes to see. Everyday objects with luxurious backgrounds create a juxtaposition which sparks an appreciation for the things we take for granted.

My work is the practice of gratitude. It is the cultivation of joy and an appreciation for the beauty that is all around us. In the beauty of the ordinary I am reminded to be grateful and to use my privileges for the good of others.
