Artwork Description
Description
Dimension Stone, looks at meaning in materials that surround our everyday. Our built environment is constructed as an extension of human expression, fabricated with mundane common materials while soaked in layers that are culturally rich. History lies in the framework of our spaces and we can unfold hidden meanings of our enclosures. As the pandemic
pushes us to work in isolation and spend more time in the digital realm, how we connect to our immediate environment is changing. There is a need to mend the visible and sensible boundaries of our physical space.
Artist Information
Bio
OZANA GHERMAN (CANADA/USA) is an emerging textile artist whose work explores the intersection of art, craft and architecture. Through her combined practice of handmade craft, sculpture, and architecture, Ozana Gherman explores the interface of interior and exterior spaces. In particular she is interested in how architecture is related to soft materials, and uses weaving techniques and other labour-intensive textile processes to create forms in attempt to inform the built environment. She has exhibited her work in several group shows in Toronto, Halifax and internationally. Her most recent exhibitions include New Essentials, Seattle Washington (2022) Soft Boundaries: Woven Meanings of Chandigarh in Ahmedabad, India (2019), Woven Light at Lumiere in Syndey, Nova Scotia (2017), Surface/Surfacing at Artscape Youngplace in Toronto, Canada (2015), and Hand & Machine at the Ontario Craft Council gallery (2014). Gherman holds a Bachelor of Design from the Ontario College of Art and Design University where she majored in Textiles and Environmental Design and a Master of Architecture from Dalhousie University.
