Spencer Allen Johnson
Bio
Spencer Allen Johnson has been drawing and creating art in various forms for over 60 years.
As an architect for 42 years, he traveled and worked internationally, designing very large commercial projects in modern and developing countries.
His artwork represents a collection of styles from memories of his travels. Nothing represents an actual place or time—everything springs from his imagination.
Mr. Johnson is a multidisciplinary artist, working in pen-and-ink, acrylic, mixed-media, ink and inkjet colors, pastels, Photoshop, and watercolor. His pen-and-ink
drawings have appeared in cookbooks and guide books published by Sasquatch Books of Seattle, Washington, and in cookbooks published by Ten Speed Press of
Berkeley, California.
Artist Statement
Spencer Allen Johnson's world travels as an Architect led to the creation of an art style that reflects his memories and experiences. He creates fantasy and imaginary depictions of those places he encountered juxtaposed into a time in the past.
Although something may look familiar to the viewer, nothing is real. The locations, people, landscapes, and architecture all spring from his imagination.
Since setting up his downtown Seattle studio in 2009, his work has evolved from pen-and-ink drawings to multimedia works and, most recently, to watercolor paintings.
