Bio

Sophie started her art in March 2021 and in this time have had a mini solo exhibition at the Arts Depot, North Finchley (March 2021) as well as works included in their 2021 Winter Exhibition and a family group exhibition at Lauderdale House, Highgate. Sophie had her art included in the local press and has given a talk at North London Stitch and Textiles, with further artists talks booked for 2023. She has sold her my art at fairs, including the Contemporary Textile Fair (Teddington), and taken many commissions for personal scenes to be sewn.
Sophie also works for Transport for London, and took up her art part-time once her children were all of school age. She is completely self-taught, having combined her love of sewing and art into a unique way of working.

Artist Statement

Sophie is a textile artist creating scenes of London with only scraps and her sewing machine. She is interested in capturing the juxtapositions of the hard concrete and steel of London architecture with the soft, textural layers of fabric. She developed an innovative way of working, and loves to reuse, giving unwanted textiles a new purpose in my art.

Each of Sophie's artworks captures a scene in a totally unique way, having both the depth and texture of the fabrics, and her fine drawing skills on the sewing machine. Her compositions and use of colour bring the scenes to life, making recognisable local scenes rich with atmosphere.
