Artist Statement

Seeing America, the Beautiful

Pandemic, war in Ukraine, nationalism, climate change … So many negative forces are swirling around. Most days it feels like there is no end to the gloom and doom. I often think of a quote by Fyodor Dostoevsky from The Idiot, “Beauty will save the world.” Our planet is beautiful, and our National Parks are here to let us appreciate this beauty. I have always loved going to the National Parks but during the pandemic I found them to be my well of energy, a source to cope with all the negativity.

I choose to see the beauty through my eyes and document it through the lens of my camera. During the last four years my family and I have visited 22 National Parks in the U.S.A. I hope that this collection of the National Parks’ photographs will inspire others to see and appreciate America the Beautiful.
