Artist Statement
As an artist, my main concern is challenging people to see the possibilities in beauty through pre-used building materials where others see functionality. I see my work as autobiographical because I remember from a very young age supporting my Dad on the building site. When I produce my artworks I experiment by combining pre-used building materials (cement, plaster, building sand, strong liquidizes, tarpaulin, polyethylene plastic, etc) with art supplies (glosses, acrylics, oils, glues, Canvas, etc). I get most excited when I start to see the pre-used building materials and art supplies morphing into one another. When operating on the building site, I had to be precise and careful with my making. Each stage had to be meticulously calculated and completed perfectly. When in my studio, however, I work much looser and freer, and allow accidents to become an integral part of the artwork. I enjoy merging both methods of creating because it provides an uncanny twist to an individual’s experience.
