Bio
Jonathan made the Pacific Northwest his home about a decade ago and has fallen in love with its geographical and geological diversity ever since. Growing up in the rural Appalachian Mountains of Pennsylvania, Jonathan was always surrounded by dense forest and rolling mountains. When life moved him to the Pacific Northwest a little less than ten years ago, the geographic diversity reinvigorated his love of nature. How can one not be captivated by the rugged evergreen mountains bookended by dramatic active volcanoes and the inviting waters of Puget Sound? For Jonathan it was love at first sight as the airplane landed in Seattle and he has not looked back since.

Jonathan had a long-standing interest in having a camera in hand since a very young age, but the idea of photography being a passion began later in 2013 while studying abroad in northern Sweden. The dark and cold winters opened up to awe-inspiring aurora borealis and from that moment on he was on his photographic journey.

An engineering career moved Jonathan westward to Seattle where he has lived for the greater part of the last decade. His photographic exploration continued when delving into the street and architectural genres. However, the wilderness always beckoned Jonathan, and as of the last few years, landscape photography has been his main focus.

Jonathan is the current Pacific Northwest ambassador for Nature First, an organization that promotes the protection and preservation of the world's natural and wild places with emphasis on photography and its impact on nature. Jonathan joined Nature First because his personal ethics fully aligned with those of the organization. As an ambassador Jonathan will strive to encourage education and responsible recreation in beloved wilderness spaces. And all his photographs were and will continually be made while always prioritizing the safety and protection of nature before the photograph itself.
Artist Statement
I believe the landscape has so much to teach us. It provides perspective, giving us a sense of a smallness that liberates us from the rest of our problems. We only then understand how insignificant we are and we revel in it. Photography is incredibly prolific, and sometimes it feels as though everything in the world has been photographed. That notion forces me to dig deeper into my soul. I create images that show nature for what it is. I express my relationship to the landscape while retaining the integrity and splendor of the wilderness. I embrace my smallness and I have nothing short of reverence for nature. All of this coalesces into my canon for landscape photography and what I wish to communicate and present to the viewer.
